It's very difficult to create a franchise out of a successful series. "Babylon 5" was followed by the
abortive and fragmented "Crusade", and "X-Files" spawned the odd "Lone Gunmen". Even Star Trek
ran out of juice with "Enterprise".
"Stargate: Atlantis" has already shown promise in its first few seasons, though it has been a difficult and
sometimes frustrating road. With the series continuing to reinvent itself with the fifth season, the
pressure is definitely on! Capsule reviews were written for the second season. New reviews and
commentary for the third season and beyond will be covered on the Stargate: Atlantis Review Blog,
starting in July 2006.
